John LeGarde started his radio career while a student at Orange County High School. After graduation in 1961 he went to work for WJMA full time holding down a number of air shifts as well as acting as the Chief Engineer.
Perhaps his most lasting impact on WJMA was as the father and first host of "Swap Shop" in October of 1963. The program was finally pulled from the air in the early 1990s.
