This picture of Alfred "Tubby" Walthall is from the March 6, 1952 edition of the Orange Review. It was printed along with a story saying that Walthall had been named General Manager to follow Art Livick.
Walthall had begun his radio career in 1946 at WSVS in Crewe, VA. He came to WJMA in September of 1951 and stayed until 1955 when he left to go to South Hill where he bought an interest in WJWS. He remained there as General Manager until he retired. In retirement he moved to Farmville where he hosted "The Swinging Years", a Saturday morning show on WFLO, Farmville, in addition to spending time with his swing band. He passed away in November of 1991.
Information about his career after WJMA comes from his daughter Frances Hazelwood.
