Red Shipley's career began at WJMA in 1955 when he was in high school. He worked at a number of stations in Northern Virginia including WAMU-FM in Washington. In 1995 he retired and returned to Orange, but continued to host "Stained Glass Blue Grass" on WAMU and was the morning host on WJMA for about 10 years. When he retired from WJMA in 2005, but he continued to host "Stained Glass Blue Grass" on WAMU. He recorded SGBG each week at his home in Orange.
Phil Audibert took this photo for a 2006 Orange Review story after Red was named the International Bluegrass Music Association's "Broadcaster of the Year".
Red Shipley died October 6, 2007.
